Few weeks ago I went on a bike trip with my friends.
Let me tell you it was AWESOME. Like most people I learned when I was a kid and then at some point I just stopped cycling. In me head I guess it was a kid’s thing.
Then in Paris and even more so in London, I was seeing lots of people cycling as a way to exercise or commute. I’m not gonna lie I never thought of doing it myself especially in a city. I always cycled in park or around the house or something.
Late 2020, my former flatmate decided to give it a go and I remember how proud of her she was and how proud I was of her. Cycling in London with all the traffic, the double decked buses and driving on the wrong side of the road…. sorry but that is the wrong side… anyways…
So when she suggested to go to Margate to cycle, having thought about it a few time (she kind of force me really…) I was quite excited and decided to go with her and other friends.
I had o much fun. However, it is true you never forget how to ride a bike but on our way to the cycling path there was a little slope (it really wasn’t a big one). And then all of a sudden, I remember an accident I had when i was a kid. I took a HUGE (that how I saw it) slope and I guess and fell and passed out. Next thing I remember, my dad was next to me and I was happy I was at the bottom at the slope, because that meant I did it, no matter how. The next few days I had a “scarface” face as apparently I fell and scratch my face only on one side….
But I was brave enough and took the slope, shaking a bit and then the journey to Ramsgate begun. It was really nice and easy a bit tiring but I would change it for nothing. I wasn’t even that sore the day after, although it was a bit painful down there …
All this to tell you to DARE, do not wait the perfect time to do something. Do not hesitate to seize any opportunity your friends, family or even yourself can give you. Just make a list of the things you were used to do and enjoyed doing, or something new you’d like to try.
Prepare a bit and GO FOR IT.
